King County Jail can be a tough place for even those who have gone through the system. This site is dedicated to helping you get some basic information on what to expect when incarcerated.

You will be taken in and booked into the system. Please follow the officers commands and don't try to negotiate with them. They don't care about you and are just doing their job. They know nothing about you and your case and are just trying to move you through the system. Save everything for the Judge and your attorney. If you feel that you have been wronged by the arresting officer, make a mental note of his squad car number. Again, always keep a polite and cooperative exterior so your don't get any "additional" charges added on. Depending on the situation, it may take you 10-12 hours to be processed. This usually involves waiting around in holding cells. Once this process is complete, you will be edible for your phone call, a bail bondsmen and an attorney.

An attorney will be assigned to you if you do not have your own. When dealing with public defenders it usually takes 5-10 minutes for them to go over your options. You will see very little of them as they are loaded down with other people. Most of them will tell you to take the plea deal which is completely up to you. You have a much better chance of getting a better deal if you have your own attorney. It is money well spent. Also, be ready to make your initial plea in front of other inmates. This can be a little uncomfortable if it's your first time but after you can post bail and get freedom.

Bail Bonds:

You will have a lot of bail bonds to choose from in the King County Jail. Please make sure you provide your full legal name and not a nickname, the name of the jail you are in and your bail amount. It's not a bad idea to get the bail bond to relay messages to your family as well.

Let this guide and your own good judgment be a basic outline to help you get through your stay at King County Jail. With preparation and a little research and  ahead of time, you will be able to avoid some of the mistakes people make. Just be ready to have a good lawyer and a good bail bond on stand-by and you can be out in under a day.
